Paddle: popsicle stick paddle

I know... this is nuts. I'm OK with that. This is my inspiration. http://www.instructables.com/id/Popsicle-Stick-Longboard-Deck/
I'm going to make the shaft out of normal wood but the blades out of popsicle sticks (spoon blades). I'm going to layer a sheet of fiber glass between each layer of popsicle sticks and probably cover the outsides with fiberglass as well. SO how many layers of popsicle stick do you guys think is necessary? I'm thinking three layers would be enough considering that would be five layers of fiber glass.
Would it be necessary to make the layers curved from the start or flat and then bend them when gluing the layers?
As far as fiber glass is concerned, how thick of a fiberglass would be needed. I have some stuff from Auto Zone that is somewhat thick. I know fiberglass is cheap though.
thanks,
Scott
On a completely side note, my spell check believes that popsicle should be capitalized???
