Shop: A cautionary tail of who to let in

Hi this is the story of my stolen and recovered generator.

On the night Of September, 29 2011 I was working on my kayak and two guys were waking by and did a double take which most passers by do when they see the boat. These two seemed overly interested in the project for some one of the area around were I am working on it. The reason I say this is I am building it in an empty garage of one of my rentals which is not in the best part of town. Further more most people around their are more apt to say “I would never do that” or “Id never have the time for that” then go back to their 40 instead of “man I wish I could l could do that”. Also these guys were acting like they were tweaking and geeking for their next fix. Well any way while I was taking to them my generator went out so I had them hold the flash light while I refilled it. Five minutes later the lights go out witch I knew something wrong as it is a practical new Honda. I go out and these two guys are running down the ally with my generator on their shoulder.

So I take off after them screaming “HELP THEEF HELLP SOTP THEEF!!!!!” Finally after chasing them tow blocks and all of the contents of my tool belt (block planes, palm skew...) spread across the ally they pup my generator down, in a pile of dog poop, and moseyed off. On a brighter note by the time I got halfway back to the garage I was sounded by about 8 cruisers of Columbus's finest.

Moral of the story make sure you pick a fairly secure and secluded work location, lock up everything and be wary of who you let in your shop.

Lastly I am curious how secluded / privet most peoples shops are? Does any one else have total strangers just pooping their head in as they pass by?
