Strip: Attaching outwales

I'm ready to attach the outwales to the Wee Lassie. The inwales are already epoxied in. I've seen outwales attached with screws and covered with plugs and I like the traditional look but is there any real advantage over just attaching them with epoxy using clamps? I imagine even the screwed on ones are also epoxied which would negate removal anyway. Are any of the gunwales on wood canoes removable for repair or refinishing?

Thanks,
Ian
