I'm going to build a P.B.K. 27 (Sea Scout, BK 27, Clark Craft, Blandford). The plans call for the keel and bilge keels to be attached to the bottom on the outside of the skin. I'm wondering about current SOF thinking about this detail. I like that it should add some durability in certain situations like paddling over logs and some rocks in shallow water, but I worry that the it might be a place where sand can get in-between causing wear and more maintenance. It also would make re-skinning more difficult, but in reality it's unlikely that I'll need to re-skin (famous last words).

Any experience or additional thoughts to share?
