: I have a modified Yost Sea Tour 15 that has a strange problem. My
: feet seem to be a little elevated in this boat, to the point
: that I burn out my hip flexors after a while trying to sit
: upright. I'm trying to find a solution and figured I'd see if
: others have confronted this problem before. A few salient facts.

: 1. The kayak was built in one of Bill Hamm's classes, and has a
: rounded masik and flat back deck. Tom worked on modifications to
: make it more or less more "Greenlandy."
: 2. I'm a reasonably flexible/athletic guy, and have paddled much
: tighter-fitting boats without this issue.
: 3. My inseam (30") is short for my height.
: 4. The cockpit is sufficiently large that I can sit further back,
: but that cuts the freeboard pretty low and the boat looks
: "tilted." Also, it doesn't seem to resolve the issue.

: Since I obviously can't lower the feet, I was thinking about
: getting some 1/4" plywood to elevate the seat in 1/4"
: intervals and see what it takes to get a better fit, if
: possible. I'm aware of the decreased stability trade-off, but
: this is a very stable boat already.

: Is there something else I should be trying? Anybody have this
: problem before and resolve it?

Hi Stephen,

I don't remember, does that boat have "foot boards" in it? If so, you can just take them out and let your heels rest on the fabric to lower them.

Otherwise I'd carve a minicell pad, start out a little high, it's easier to make it lower ;)
