The SLT has an inch less room under the deck, and unless you are very light, is probably going to be marginally slower than the LT.

I disagree with this; I think the SLT will be a faster boat for most recreational (not racing) paddlers.
The waterline lengths can be used to predict the maximum hull speed (in theory) before the effort required goes up a lot.
SLT LWL= 13.1 ft theoretical max speed=4.85 knots
LT LWL=14.5 ft theoretical max speed= 5.1 knots

There's not much difference in max hull speed predictions because of the length difference, and both speeds are much higher than most non-racing paddlers achieve hour after hour.

However, the SLT has quite a bit less wetted surface area (15.5. sq ft vs the 18 sq ft of the LT), and the wetted surface area is one of the main 'drag' factors for a kayak.

That's the reason I can easily keep up with my friends when I'm paddling my 13.5 ft Mariner Coaster - lower wetted surface and better efficiency at speeds around 4 knots.
