What is the clamping and drying time of Titebond Wood Glues?

As a practical matter Titebond in a tight fitting joint will tack up to sufficient strength to hold in roughly 5 to 10 minutes. The tighter the seam, the quicker the tack up. I.e. in the time it takes you to fit the next strip, the glue is sufficiently dry to remove any clamps or tape. The thin tape does not interfere with fitting, therefore as a practical matter tape does not slow down the assembly process significantly.

My experience with hot melt is it applies zero clamping pressure. The glue itself creates enough expansion pressure to force open a small gap without actual edge-to-edge pressure provided by some form of clamp until the PVA glue tacks up. At best hot melt will hold a strip in place once it has cooled sufficiently, but any clamping pressure you want to apply needs to be from some other source, such as your hand, a spring clamp or, maybe tape.

Green 3M #2060 masking tape will provide significant clamping pressure. Hot melt across the strip joints is a useful tool, but for me it is not a substitute for a clamp where tape is.
