Actually the reason I asked is because I know of quite a few houses on slabs here in CT and I almost bought one years back.

And down in the Carolinas most are on slabs and they do freeze. Maybe not as long but they do get weeks of below freezing every now and then. I assumed it was mostly costs and that some areas develop a tradition which correlates to the house desirability in the area.

I was writing out checks a few days ago, and I was amazed how little my electric bill has gone up considering my use of space heaters. I have been using my basement shop quite a bit lately, a few house a day and I use the space heaters in my computer room etc. My bill only seems to go up about $12 a month.
