I may have mentioned that my light weight Petrel was not intentional. I was using strips that had been milled by someone else and not very accurately. Many ended up being 1/8" thick. The faired hull before glassing weighed 9 pounds. That said, it's a really fun boat and super easy to schlep around.
In locating the front hatch I was trying to keep to Nick's measurements and within the feature lines. The result is a hatch a bit too small, almost unusable.
On my second one I used 3/16" strips and it's closer to the design weight, about 40 pounds. I also used squarish hatch which I find more practical.
