Opinions about what boat is "best", alternate suggestions on to design a boat, what makes it desirable, what makes it good looking - all of that an more are not about facts, and have always been a part of this forum.

What I'm asking, more specifically, is if the intended format of this forum is that initial posts should be in the form of questions seeking advice - "How do I...?" "What's the best way to...?" and responses will consist of "You should..." statements with either respond to the initial question, or provide alternates or corrections to prior responses. Anything else would be off-topic, i.e., no "conversations," just "advice."

So long as we can get something more than "I think....." then there is a conversation to be had and value to be found, for experienced and beginners.

Those are two different things. If you want to limit the scope to assertions of fact in response to questions, i.e., "advice," then yes, an "I think..." speculation is inappropriate. If you want a conversation to be had, though, then that's precisely what an "I think" statement invites. A series of assertions of fact is not a conversation.

You can't really say that everyone should speak up and then say someone experienced should not provide their knowledge.

Are you just making a general statement, or do you actually think I ever said anything remotely like that?

Damn, I was going to shut up.

Why? I think (oops - there's that phrase you hate) that this is a constructive conversation. (and it is, indeed, a conversation)
