A friend lost one joint to an older typical saw.
It was his fault, but over in an instant.
Not a terrible wound compared to others.

So he bought a Saw Stop.

Several months later he showed me a tiny mark on his thumb.
Another accident caused by himself, but this time he would have lost the whole thumb.
He didn't even need a bandage.

The $150 to replace cartridge and blade was lots cheaper than the doctor
