I've said this before, and I don't want to sound like some crazy, embittered guy, but I would never again leave out the fill coat on the inside - a little water left inside, a few micro-holes and the right temperature and the water seeps through the micro-holes and starts to rot the wood. Been there, done that, spent many happy hours replacing rotted wood. Not good.

My fill coats are typically around 300 grammes (10 oz) per coat, if you do only one coat it will still be non-skid, but you will have piece of mind that there are no holes.
