Strip: Strip design suitable for 25-45kg children (55-100

Hi all

I've posted this on Ross Leidy's forum as well, as I found some handy posts there, but posting here too for the wider audience:

I've thoroughly enjoyed paddling the Guillemot I built a few years ago. Our 11 year old son has got pretty adept at paddling her and he now elbows me out, leaving me to a 2+1 sit on top bathtub with our two younger children. It's great he is so enthusiastic and he keeps egging me for his own craft.

The Guillemot is of course too big for him. Stability isn't an issue but he doesn't sink it enough, so can't get the ends in the water to get it tracking. So I'd like to build a kayak suitable for him. He's 70lb at the moment. If I can build something to cope with a paddler up to about 100lb weight that would be ideal, that way he can use it for a couple of years and then our two younger kids can work their way through it as well.

I've trawled this forum and http://www.kayakforum.com, but not found a lot beyond simple stitch and glue craft which mostly look more suited to younger kids and puttering about. So here are the designs I'm considering at the moment:
- Redfish Parr, presumably the 14' model
- Kudzu Craft Tadpole skin on frame, I'd probably prefer to build a cedar strip just out of familiarity with this build method
- And then I noticed in a couple of posts on Ross's forum that Allan Newhouse has built two child-size kayaks, but I can't find any posts with more details on them.

Any advice would be most welcome.

Note - I'm not phased by the extra time and cost that a strip-build represents. I know that s&g or skin on frame would be cheaper and quicker. But I'm planning to build a Njord this year anyway so having two on the go would be fun.

Cheers, Ian
