The traditional method is to use brads (a small finish nail) applied over a piece of scrap strip.
You have to cut all those little scrap strip bits and hope they don't split during nailing.

Break the scrap strip to expose a raised brad head for easy removal.

This can be speeded by the use of a pneumatic brad gun.

The one larger hole left by brads can be more easily filled with wood putty than staple holes.

Yes, been there.

Hot glue's faster on and off and doesn't slip or move.
