Strip: Microbootlegger hatch?

I'm nearing the point of no return.
Getting ready- I thought- to cut a deck hatch in a solo microbootlegger, but just wasn't feeling good about it. I searched the Internet and, well- I don't see ANYONE cutting hatches in microbootleggers. No deck rigging to speak of, either.
An old thread here mentioned using a screw in inspection port in the rear bulkhead, though that doesn't seem like a practical place to store just about anything, especially with a seat and back band in the way.
I'm not too concerned about storage, but I'm curious about how others are approaching this. I'm more than happy not to hack into that bookmatched deck just so the kiddos can stow a water bottle...
Thanks,
Patrick North
