Other: Lubricating skeg cables?

I have a composite kayak that I think would benefit by some lubrication to the skeg cable. I think if I stand the kayak on end I can drip some sort of lubricant into the end of the cable housing (there is access to it in the cockpit) and the lubricant may find its way down the length of the plastic cable housing.
My thought is to spray some silicone lubricant into a container to get some liquid to pour in. But I don't want to do anything or use anything that might gum up the works and be hard to clean out later.
I have used water to try to flush out any grit that may be in there but thought that maybe a lubricant would help also.
Any thoughts?
