As I read your question it dawned on me that my construction methods are now based on that based on that Guillemot design. Sharply upturned ends and concave hull sides in the bow and stern. .5" Arrow 50 staples would pull out, and then I would have two problems trying to figure out a clamping system on the fly with glue drying and feeding staple points back into their holes, without further damaging the wood.

Nowadays I drive two drywall screws into each form, and wrap rubber bands around them to hold the strips. Add bands if you need to increase pressure.
