That shipping quote won't be a surprise to many Canadians - In my experience, many US companies don't want to bother with Canadian customers, so charge exorbitant shipping. Digikey & Mouser are examples of the right way to treat international customers, but they are electronics component companies, so not much use for kayak and workshop stuff.
