S&G: Do you glass your wood coamings?

Friends are building a Pygmy S&G kit.
I suggested that they consider 'wrapping' glass from under the deck, up and over the plywood coaming riser and coaming lip.

They have talked to other builders, including the folks at Pygmy, and have gotten the response that it's 'unheard of' and unnecessary.

Am I the only person who reinforces wood coamings this way? (Nowadays I almost always make glass coamings, but I had seen some plywood coaming lips separate from the riser (or the plies of the riser plywood delaminate), so I always wrapped the glass around.)

I also always round over the inside edge of the coaming where the riser meets the lip - another step that's supposedly uncommon.
