S&G: Petrel Staining the Hull

Greetings!

I'm about to build my third S&G kayak, this time the SG Petrel from Nick Schade and CLC.

I painted the hulls of my previous two boats bright yellow leaving the okoume on the deck. I really love the look and the added visibility on the water.

Rather than painting the hull this time, I was considering using the yellow-lemon Behlen Solar-Lux to stain the hull panels approximate to the water line and below. I was looking for any friendly advice in this arena. I have seen pics of the SG Night Heron floating around the web that has yellow, blue and red panels, and that seems like the yellow I'm looking for. So here goes in no particular order:

1. Is the yellow-lemon the right color for a bright visible but not eye-melting yellow on okoume under MAS epoxy?
2. Is this a terrible idea, and should I just paint her like my other boats? (I was hoping for a sand and varnish off-season maintenance instead of a varnish and paint combo.)
3. Is there another yellow stain that would be better for this purpose?

Thanks so much.

-Mike
