Hi Paul, your question got me thinking, and I thought I'd compile a list for my website. Here is the initial list, much of which can be managed without, with some work around savvy. If anyone has thoughts on omissions I'd be glad to hear them, so I can add them to the list....

Tools for kayak building.

MACHINE TOOLS

TABLE SAW ... Preferably with steel top, for magnetic featherboard. (Portable contractor's saw is ok)
Long out-feed table ... Home made - supporting strips while ripping
Standard ripping blade - ripping larger planks
Standard crosscut blade - general work
Narrow kerf blade - ripping strips
Short infeed fence ... Home made - ripping strips
Magswitch featherboard - ripping strips
Zero clearance blade insert ... Home made - ripping strips

BAND SAW .... Optional - cutting formers, etc ( jigsaw works too)

THICKNESSER ... Optional - cleaning up planks prior to ripping strips. (Portable bench top unit is fine)

BENCH-TOP DISK SANDER ... Optional - squaring edges on formers.

HAND POWER TOOLS

Drill-driver - setting up strong back, forms, and general work
Random orbital sander, with 60, 80, 120, 180, 240 grit disks
Jigsaw with Bosch T101AO Jigsaw Blades Clean for Wood - cutting hatches, bulkheads, skeg slot etc
Heat gun - strip management and glassing

HAND TOOLS
Japanese saw
Medium block plane - general work
Small block plane 2 to 3 inch - bevelling strips
Scrapers with handles - cleaning up inside of hull and deck
A few utility knives with lots of blades - general work, scraping
Spring clamps, lots - stripping and general work
General clamps, a few - general work
Lots of tape measures
Spirit level and plumb-bob - former setup
Fishing line - former setup
Surgical tube or resistance training tube - strip and general clamping
Green masking tape - strip clamping

GLASSING and FINISHING CONSUMABLES

Organic vapour mask - glassing and varnishing
Brushes, disposable gloves, squeegees, old credit cards, paper cups, thin-foam rollers, tongue depressors, lots of green masking tape, newspaper, plastic sheet, packing tape, an old sheet and old T-shirts for cleanup and wipe down cloths, sponge, closed cell foam for wet sanding, more sanding disks for hand sanding, lots of pencils,
