On a Valley sea kayak.

In my paddling group, most folks just use (waxed) gelcoat (polyester) and glass for rub strips.

If it's masked off neatly, it looks pretty good.
Not many 'white' hulls are actually white, so it's tough to get an exact color match, IME, so a nice sharp demarcation line looks better.

Also, adding a bit of silica helps harden up the gelcoat a bit, though it's tough to avoid getting the gelcoat too thickened.

If you make a mistake, it's simple enough to just sand it down and start again - with a white hull and gelcoat.
