Puncture, as in having a wave drop you on a sharp rock or piece of rebar sticking out of concrete?

I don't know the answer, but my guess is that the glass on both sides of the wood core will have more effect on puncture resistance.
There's a lot of good info at Vaclav's One Ocean kayak site.

For a boat that you plan on smashing into rocks, polyethylene is probably a better choice than wood strip (and probably cheaper, too, even if you buy a brand-new boat....)...
