Hello everyone. I'm new to kayaks, and boat building and design. I've recently begun work on a Guillemot kayak and in my spare time I've been playing around with Ross Liedy's Kayak Foundry. I read in Nick Schade's book that the Center of Lateral Area should be behind the Center of Bouyancy so my question is, how much and what are the consequences if it isn't?
While playing with Kayak Foundry it seems that I can get a more efficient shape in terms of drag and stability if the CLA is in front of the CB but this doesn't tell me how the boat will handle and track. Any help would be appreciated.
