I built the WD Lightning 12 and 14 ten years ago as beginner kayaks for my wife and me. Still going strong. The kits were of very good quality, all panels fit perfectly. They handle well without a rudder. Naturally the 12 tends to swing from side to side a little as you paddle, due to its short length. The grain patterns of the deck panels were symmetrical, a nice touch. The only difficulty I had was taping and gluing the deck to the hull, not unique to WD kits. The back rest is higher than the back deck, making it a bit difficult to get in and out if you sit on the back deck. Other models may be different. The ply S&G seat is comfortable.
