Need some advice... I am very new to the sport -- my first river experience was last weekend, but had about two days of pool training to get my roll down.
Here's my question; I have heard that dislocated shoulders are very common injuries among kayakers and I'm already noticing that my right shoulder is very sore. This always lasts for about three days after I am in a kayak and I can only assume it's because of the rather extreme reaches you have to place your arms in to perfect a roll. I've noticed that trying to get my paddle above the water before I roll tends to aggravate my right shoulder.
a) Am I already in danger of dislocating my shoulder? b) Is my technique incorrect and might there be a better technique for rolling? c) Any excercises or strength training that make dislocations less likely?
I have to say, I already love this sport and would hate to be sidelined by wimpy shoulders.
Thanks in advance for any advice/tips. Coley
