Me: 6 foot 5 inches tall and 250 pounds +/- (depending on how many milkshakes I had the week before).
My intended (hoped) use: Sloughs, bays, lakes, reservoirs and, maybe, a gentle river or two. I'm not sure about the ocean yet, but it's possible.
My experience with kayaks: None. Well, I rented a Perseption "Arcatia" the other day and used it on Lake Merritt in Oakland, Ca, but it was too small for me so the experience wasn't so good.
What I'm looking for: A stable boat that doesn't handle like a tank or take all my strength to move about the water.
I'm not going to dive off it so a SOT isn't needed, but I would like something good for covering a lot of distance while exploring.
I don't want a SOT because of my high cg and the fact that I sunburn easily. I would like either a recreational or sea kayak, possibly with a folding skeg.
I sat in a Wilderness Systems Tsunami 145 today (not in the water) but found it to be very narrow (14.5' by 24.5"). Would this be a bad boat for someone my size and height? I liked the way it "felt" but worried about it being too tippy for someone as tall as myself.
I also sat in a Perseption Arcatia 13 with a rudder option and wondered if it would be a decent compromise beteen a less-tippy boat and a good tracking boat (because of the rudder).
What would you folks recommend?
