Hey folks, paddled my new kayak today (over in design forum). But the great news is using a dry suit in 38 degree water...it works! I put it on before driving out to Sandy Pt., funny looks from the Burger King guy. Absolutely amazing to be able to wade/kneel/float in dangerously cold water without the shock of cold water. But sticking your head underwater is still a no-no even with my favorite divers hood liner and fuzzy rubber hood combo. I can roll but it's not a good idea, maybe you tough folks can handle it but it seems to me that learning to be a circus fire breathing act is about as safe as exposing ones face to sub 40 water temps more than a few times. I'm still amazed by the number of people that paddle in those conditions without provisions or experience for getting the head wet more than once. Anyway, Kokotat has my endorsement,,,relief zip too.
