: If you're living in Canada, then you need to get a Canadian license to be
: able to transmit legally. Here's a link for a site that has the study
: guide for the license.
This is the conclusion I had come to. I will be enrolling in a course in
February to get my license. I figure I could probably get away without it
as I only plan to use the radio for emergencies and weather reports but the
course will help in my understanding of marine radio etiquette. It is not
so critical around here in the Ottawa area but I plan on doing some paddling
on the St. Lawrence in the summer and there proper radio usage is very likely
I plan to ask in the course what the situation is for American visitors to
Canada as this seems to be an area of uncertainty. I will post to the board
once I have completed the course and hopefully have some answers.
