Wrist pains after short outing on calm water

I am absolutely puzzled and would appreciate suggestions or even a hazarding of guesses by my BBS colleagues.

I came back from a 2-and-a-half hour sea kayaking outing this afternoon with a sore wrist that reminds me of descriptions of carpal tunnel syndrome, though I've never experienced such symptoms before. Not only was the outing brief, I did no horsing around or muscle-man stuff ... the lake was even calm, quite atypical for this time of year!

Only my right wrist was affected (my "fixed" hand). I have paddled many times for longer periods and in quite severe conditions over my year and a half of paddling since I acquired the boat, my first sea kayak. No problems with either elbow, and I have been out once every three weeks all through the winter.

Any ideas out there? Thanks!
