If a tree falls in the woods...

How sharp is the delineation between “Adventure” and a possible write-up in Deep Trouble II? We all seem to take comfort in our experience, skills, equipment and knowledge, but is a chapter in DT II more than a dice throw away for some of us? Is the answer as simple as lowering our personal level of acceptable risk? Or are we looking for risk? As you increase your skills do you require increasing challenges—to what end? In some sense, could our skills and equipment serve to reinforce an illusion of safety? It has been noted that many kayaking tragedies involve a lethal combination of small mistakes and misjudgments--could these visit any of us under the right conditions? Just remember, regardless of your experience or skills a BC ferry might be coming to your rescue one day…

With many questions and few answers,

Craig
