This being my third year kayaking, I am stepping up the intensity of my rescue training. As one result, I have a minor injury that won't go away. When I roll (usually C to C; learned from a WW kayaker) on my on-side, I scrape my left thumbs' "knuckle" on the hull. It used to just get a little sore, but now I keep building scar tissue there only to get knocked off when rolling.
Last night, I opened it up to about 3/8" diameter (blood on the water-look for sharks!). Interestingly, this does not happen on my off-side, which I practice equally as often.
Is anyone else plagued by this minor pain-in-the-butt injury? I suppose I could wear a neo glove long enough to let it heal, but I am also concerned that my technique may have some flaw. Any thoughts?
BTW, the kayak is a CD Caribou, glass; the paddle is a Werner Mid-Tour 230 cm.
