On July 1st my cousin and good friend Gary Keller will be swimming across Lake Washington to raise
awareness and funding for local domestic abuse shelters. The swim will be part 2 of a 3 stage journey that
begins with biking across Washington state, swimming from Houghton Beach Park in Kirkland to Warren G
Magnuson Park in Sand Point (1.75 miles), continuing on the bike south to Mt Rainier and ending with a week
long summit climb via the Tahoma Glacier route.
The event was created in response to a domestic violence tragedy that
took place in his family last summer. More details can be found at the web site below.
The part I need your help with is in a support role for the swimmers, the city has asked that there be one boat
per swimmer (15) for the crossing. There will be 6 or more power boats forming a perimeter for the swimmers
and several YMCA life guards on paddleboards joining but we still need several more kayakers to paddle
alongside, mainly as spotters and to provide assistance if necessary. I will be paddling my Guillemot and
another friend Bob will be there in his Artic Tern. It should be a lot of fun.
