Refer to the diagram in my last post as it illustrates the recovery. The stroke is very long, so that the paddle blade finishes well behind the hip. The motion of the blade stops for a split-second before the blade reverses direction and starts moving forward and upward, slicing through edgewise for a short distance, on its way out of the water. You can get some idea of the "one-pause-two" nature of this stroke from Maligiaq's short description in the "Rolling with Maligiaq" video.

If this didn't help, give me some more specifics, and I'll try again.
