Yesterday I was doing a fog crossing in Maine. Conditions good, no problems, just worries about lobster boats in the area swamping me. So I do a securite call announcing my position and direction of travel and how long in the crossing on my VHF radio. A few minutes later a fishing vessel storms by quickly at a distance of about 20 to 30 yards. My question is this: is a VHF radio securite call for a fog crossing in Maine really just painting a target on my back for yahoo fishermen who don't like kayakers in their fishing grounds?
