No problem with the late reply, it's nice to hear that you have found a solution.

Just one point: a rudder is great, but has multiple points of failure (the pivot, the control lines, the pedals, the retraction mechanism) whereas a movable skeg is a bit more reliable, and by adjusting the amount of skeg in the water you can compensate for the strength and angle of the wind - so it is more like a rudder than most people think in terms of controllability but is also more reliable (I speak as someone who has had their rudder break at the worst possible moment).

Uncle Nick has plans for a really simple, but very good skeg, I thoroughly recommend it.
