Anyone ever taken a skin-on-frame kayak on segments of the Madison River, in Montana? Parts of the river are within the boundaries of Yellowstone National Park? There are some sections of class III (Bear Trap Canyon, for example), but--at least from google's images and googleearth, there appear to be some fairly calm stretches, populated mostly by fly fisherman and their prey.
Going to Yellowstone in June and staying near Hebgen Lake. If you have any experience or thoughts about where to put in/take out, I'd really appreciate it. River looks pretty calm near the Madison Junction Campground, inside Yellowstone.
If you have any other ideas about "floatable" rivers and and other good kayaking spots, please let me know. i found a great website with a full-on intinerary for Shoshone lake. That will have to wait for another year... But any other ideas are welcome.
