Hello, my name is Randy, and I live in La Mesa, California. I got plans for the Micro Sport Bootlegger and hope to have her on the water - here at the Watson Lake in Prescott, Arizona - someday.
This is what I have now, a Pamlico tandem...

The post header should have been, "Randy's Micro Bootleggers Sport, Builders Log Book".
Have been accumulating tools and today bought my first table saw!

Randy,
If you are new to the power tool program you might search the archives or post questions here. These guys have tried most everything and have a pretty good idea what works, what doesn't work and whats worth the $$$
Randy (Michigan) :)
Thanks Randy
I will look that up...
Table saw
The table saw is probably the most dangerous thing in most shops.
So use push sticks and good infeed and outfeed tables and zero clearance inserts and a good ripping fence and a good blade and.......and....
It's more difficult to paddle with fewer fingers and thumbs!
This is no joke, BTW - there have been kayak builders who have had serious tablesaw accidents.
Agree
Will be setting up some sort of "power feed" for the strip cuts...
I bought a Dewalt table saw, seems to be an out of the box good choice for a first time - prolly only build - that I will do, but we'll see...
I am a former [metal] machine shop worker and have seen plenty of accidents. From fingers in a press squished; to you name it. My family had a shop at one time for metal forming aircraft parts. Been there and seen some of that unfortunately.
I take extreme care with my personal parts, God only gave me a "starter pack" and I plan on keeping most of it if not all, lol !
Anyways, I am pretty conscious of the sort of danger inherent with a blade spinning at velocities that will cause a severing of appendages and a very visual display of "systolic arterial pressure" to squirt clear across a room in just a blink of an eye!
Thanks,
Randy
Safety
Randy-
Good to hear!
I took a night school machine shop course in the 70s and there was a poster in the shop to emphasize the 'no rings' rule: a finger with a ring (twisted) and the tendons hanging out of the base. Still the stuff of nightmares......

Got the drawing board cleared off. The plans rolled out...
The plan is to buy the strong back next. Going to get a square tube of aloomeneeum extrusion. Cut out and 77 the patterns onto MDF.

I suggest looking at this site. My feeling is all table saws should be
fitted with this OFF system before sale.
Our Men's Shed's two table saws and my own one have this system fitted.

You can be holding something with both hands and still be able to
switch the saw off using your knee or leg.
WOW!
I built these shutoff's on my table saw and router table 30+ years ago - - I could have been rich :(
Thats a great idea!
Thanks for the link.
Somebody should be rich for that one...

Thank you !
I'll have a look around...
Got a tube of aloomeeneeum ~
So, went down to the metal store today and got a 167" tube of 6063t6.
I forgot to close the "end" of the tube cause it caused some annoying audible harmonics as I traveled home. At freeway speeds it subsided...
