Strip Built

Thanks to Nick for a great design that handles as good as she looks, and to everyone who has taken the effort to share their work and ideas. 

I am desperate... I applied minwax stain to interior coaming risers and upper coaming lip on my Petrel Play Strip build.
Third strip build, but first use of stain...

Sadly, (or not) I discovered my error before applying the glass.

Can anybody offer a best recovery step here?

My mollusk went from a bi-valve to a gastropod over the weekend. That is something that any malacologist that builds kayaks will understand.  I will post better pictures once i get it done.

i had a disheartening situation tonight. I’m putting thin strips of bent wood on the inside lips of my deck hatches to seal against the foam on the underside of the hatches.  I hot glued blocks onto the deck for clamp blocks.  Long story short, I knocked off one of the blocks and a chunk of epoxy went with it revealing the fiberglass below.   I’ve searched the old archives briefly and didn’t find anything similar. Does anyone have any advice on how to make the least obvious repair?  I can’t sand any without getting into the glass.

With immediate apologies - I'm sure this has been addressed perhaps multiple times before.

But can anyone point me to a simplified list of step-by-step instructions in building a strip-built kayak?  For example, I just completed stripping the hull of my Petrel.  And was trying to remember - do I pull the staples, sand and glass the hull, before stripping the deck?

I searched the archives and couldn't find any old posts about this, so I'll give some background... Sometime around 2001/2002 I built a Chesapeake Light Craft Northbay.  I paddled it very happily for a few years but had a few changes I wanted to make.  Sometime around 2007 I ripped the deck off and started a strip deck and some other modifications.  Then we had a couple of kids and I put the kayak up in the garage for a whole bunch of years.  

I have just imported a kit set for a strip built Night Heron into New Zealand. In the kit is 1016 feet of  three different types of wood. I am thinking about how I use the strips. Can anybody tell me whether there is enough to complete the hull in one type of wood ie 677 feet?

A good friend built a nice cedar stripped kayak back in the late 90's and he's only used it a handful of times. When not it use, it's stored in his garage which has no windows. He's moving now, and has offered it to me for sale. I know that UV can degrade epoxy and glass over time, but if a kayak has been stored out of the sun are there any concerns with buying a 20 year old strip-built kayak?

Hello. I am building my second kayak using Nicks books. I built the guillemot from the last book and it came out great despite it being my first boat and not having taken any classes. This time around, I am building the Petrel from Building Strip Planked Boats. I am taking care to do things correctly and without haste. I am trying to figure out how to set the angle for the sheer strip. I understand the rolling bevel and all of that. I just cant figure out how to set the angle.

I've just pulled stations out of a Petrel and have a strong back available to anyone in the GTA who wants it. Its a box beam out of 3/4 plywood.
