With the help of this forum, Nick's books and videos, and despite my numerous mistakes, I've completed my first kayak, the Guillemot Petrel Play. The personalized coaming was to cover up the fact I cut and glued the cherry strips incorrectly. The wide maple accent around the recess was another oops fixer. I cut the hole in the deck too large.
Now to make a paddle or paddles, and wait for warm weather.

From now on the personalized coaming and maple accents around the recess will be what you do on every kayak. Solutions to mistakes are how traditions are started.
BTW, I put an accent around my Petrel Play recess for the exact same reason. The reason I didn't do the same on my current µBS build is because I nailed the fit the first time and didn't want to risk messing it up while adding an accent.
