Way off topic, but, I have considered various designs for a 5' lighthouse for the front yard. My wife wants one to cover an ugly sewer pump. It just occurred to me the other day that using conventional strip-building techniques for such a project should be straightforward. In fact, I would think that such a project would be a good start for beginner strip-builders.
Has anyone tried something like this? How far afield from conventional kayaks has strip-building taken you?
I've added this project for my back-burner to-do list for the year. I'll add photos along the way, if anyone is interested.

do you want your lighthouse to be light enough to move easily to access the sewer pump? Sounds like a good idea.
After building a half-dozen epoxy strip canoes, I decided to build a strip-planked 29' sloop. :-)
It's NOT the same when the strips are 1.25" x 1.5" !

I can imagine! Thanks for the link. I got so caught up in browsing the great info on there that I didn't respond to your note for a while...
I especially find the article about epoxy penetration interesting...the concept of outgassing the wood prior to applying epoxy in order to have the epoxy adhere to the wood better...
