Has anyone tried to make a gasket around the coaming similar to the one used on the Trak 1600? I am skinning the deck on a somewhat modified Tom Yost kayak and would like to use a similar gasket around coaming. I am most interested in the type material used for the gasket.
Thanks, Tom

Got Nitrile 1/16". x 36" x 72" Commercial Grade 60A Buna sheet from HomeDepot at a reasonable price so am giving that a try. I have cut the gasket and it looks good so far. Will post how it turns out.
The 1/16" Nitrile
The 1/16" Nitrile worked! I will take and post pictures when we get a nice day.

Gasket
Does the nitrile gasket help keep the skirt in place more tightly? Also, what about wear and tear on the gasket...how much life do you think you will get out of it? I'm asking because I hope to skin a frame some time in my future.
Gasket
The gasket may help to seal the skirt as it gives it a smooth, rubber, surface to seal to. I can't see that it would keep it in place as the skirt is over the top of the gasket. It might be the other way round. As for wear, that would depend entirely on how often you remove the skin. I hope it lasts as long as the skin, and I hope the skin outlasts me, but you must remember I'm really old. :-D
