Help

I have volunteered to help a friend that is doing an open water swim race. Each swimmer needs a paddler (where I come in) and each paddler is required to affix a dowel to their boat with the swimmers number on it. So. The question, as I'm sure you have all figured out by now, is; short of drilling a hole through the deck, any ideas how can I attach this pennant to my boat (and still use my spray skirt)?

Thanks!

Kitchen areas of home centers / hardware stores carry all kinds of suction cups to hand things off of windows, cabinets etc. Maybe they even have large ones somewhere. Then you adapt.

Yay! A new thread. I've been missing everyone.

you could attach the pole to your PFD.

I ran a small pirate flag on the back of my kayak for an endurance race once.  I cut a 12 inch long piece of 2x2 cedar and drilled a hole for the 5/8 dowel I used as a flag pole.  I then taped the block on the rear deck with clear packing tape.  I wrapped clear around the boat with several wraps of tape and it stayed on with no problems.

In addition to the other excellent suggestions, you might want to put a piece of plywood under the bungee cords with a hole drilled through it to hold the "flag" staff.
