Login problem

Submitted byJohnAbercrombie onSat, 06/22/2019 - 11:38

I usually stay logged in to this site, but this morning I needed to log in again, so I tried using the link at the upper right under the 'Search Form'.

I got an error:

Redirects to external URLs are not allowed by default, use \Drupal\Core\Routing\TrustedRedirectResponse for it.

This happened several times, until I switched to the 'box' link at the left side above the listing of post topics.

Shop Towels used as tack cloth

Submitted byPruden17 onSat, 06/22/2019 - 10:32
Shop Towels

I normally use these shop towels, soaked with acetone, to wipe dust off any project created using marine rated epoxy...couldn't do this with the Brightside one part epoxy paint that I used to paint my canoe...Brightside easily dissolves in acetone. So when I sanded between coats (did 2 coats) I used the Shop Towels without acetone.

Canoe Restoration

Worked on the olde QuickSilver ll canoe today. Sanded off the chalky gel coat down to stuff unaffected by UV exposure, was left with a scratchy surface for great epoxy mechanical attachment, then gave it a decent coat of epoxy. Mistake #1 and only #1: mixed a 1-liter batch of epoxy to avoid mixing several small batches. Worked great for 1/2 of the canoe...and then things got real hot...forgot why it's very important to use only small batches of epoxy.

My 2nd Greenland paddle, first hardwood tips

Submitted byPaulCezanne onWed, 06/12/2019 - 06:57

Hello

I'm working on my second Greenland paddle, and that will be my first cedar one. I made a practice one out of white wood. I pretty much had zero wood working experience so I wanted some cheap wood.

It turned out better than expected but I can see that the tips will get chewed up. I know that I can use hardwood as tips so I bought some oak Tightbond 3.

Unemployment, the homeless folks, time on my hands

Submitted byPruden17 onTue, 06/11/2019 - 18:15

I became unemployed by choice (kinda sorta) today...long story. Headed off to the government offices to do some paperwork, got that done, stopped at a restaurant to buy a delicious donair, left and headed to the park to eat it and read about Doug Mawson, Australian Antarctic explorer. I felt famished and wanted to devour the donair even before I got to the park. Got to the park, parked my car and while I was parking the car, saw a very tired, withdrawn, thin homeless man, carrying empty plastic bags, slowly making his way to a park bench to rest.
