Greenland Paddle Length - shorter person

Submitted byDinty onFri, 06/22/2018 - 16:00

Building a paddle for my girlfriend as a gift - managed to measure her last night with only some confused comments :) - Based on the normal methods I get 76" (floor to raised hand) or 78" (Armspan + elbow) and a 17" loom (hand-hand).

She's 5'3" and her boat is probably 21".  I'm thinking to go to 80" long and maybe a 20" loom.

Epoxy repair

Submitted byaaronpotter onMon, 06/18/2018 - 22:54

i had a disheartening situation tonight. I’m putting thin strips of bent wood on the inside lips of my deck hatches to seal against the foam on the underside of the hatches.  I hot glued blocks onto the deck for clamp blocks.  Long story short, I knocked off one of the blocks and a chunk of epoxy went with it revealing the fiberglass below.   I’ve searched the old archives briefly and didn’t find anything similar. Does anyone have any advice on how to make the least obvious repair?  I can’t sand any without getting into the glass.

Rack Recommendations?

Submitted byPatrick North onMon, 06/18/2018 - 09:25

Hi all-

(Cross posting this on another site)

I'm punting on a kayak trailer for the time being. Any recommendations for a roof rack setup to accommodate various combinations of SUPs and rec kayaks- up to 3 craft at any one time?

Now that my kiddos are older I have adequate help loading, so I'm not motivated by any of the "load assist" type solutions. My biggest priorities are security/stability on the road and not beating up these wooden boats with a rack that was designed with only indestructable plastic boats in mind.

Thanks,

Patrick

Strip built Coaster

Submitted byRalph Merriman onTue, 06/12/2018 - 19:03

Hi All:

I have a thing for Mariner Kayaks designs.   I used to own a Max and it was a great boat, if heavy.

My most recent project is my attempt at a strip built Coaster, starting from the information on their web site, mostly the lines taken from an old issue of Sea Kayaker magazine.  This is the album of backyard launch pictures: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10204586821627719.1073741840…

Greenland Paddle--one piece vs 2 piece

Submitted byNonprophet onTue, 06/12/2018 - 12:28

Finally getting around to building my first GP. I've borrowed a few, and then a few months back bought an Aleutian-style paddle from a friend who had made it. He made it into a 2-piece by utilizing one of those metal push-button paddle ferrules. I like the idea of a 2-piece for a variety of reasons: 1. easy to stow in vehicle, as a back-up paddle, etc. 2. Can easily add drip rings.

What are forums members thoughts on one-piece vs 2-piece GPs?

First fishing kayak

Submitted bymelton13 onFri, 06/01/2018 - 02:17

Hi, I want to buy my first fishing kayak Here is some good review of  Best Fishing Kayak 2018 and hope you can give me some advice. It will be mainly used for freshwater bass fishing on the smaller dams that are not accessible to my boat. My son will join me for a few short sessions(1 - 2 hour)I will also take it with to Cape Vidal but this will be more for playing and fishing in the bay and not for serious offshore fishing.
