Paul, I've built a Coho and can agree that for most conditions it needs no rudder and turns easily. Even in a stiff breeze I found very little weathercocking. That said, I installed one anyway, just because I like the extra tracking and turning ease. It's a matter of personal needs, and if you don't want it in the water you can always leave it flipped up. For a less then advanced paddler (as I am) you might like the added options. Since you add it after the boat is built, paddle it a few times and then make a descision.
