powdered graphite application

For anyone who has used powdered graphite to slick the hull. I am concerned that when taping the waterline mark(after the first clear coat application), the same tape will deform the first layer of epoxy/tape.

If the epoxy should not be hard prior to applying the second(graphite mixed) layer, won't any tape used to create the water mark( separating the bottom gray graphite from the clear coated sides) either rip or disform the soft epoxy?

Also the directions on the graphite can call for a 10% ratio, but I recall someone saying at least 30% was needed to slick the hull. Any recommendations?

Should I just glass up to the waterline and epoxy the wood sides?
