> Shawn hi shawn, more words; my thinking is that edges forward of ones hips make for a more difficult lever (force) to work against than edges aft of ones hips. A steering sweep stroke works more effectively from the aft quarter than from say a 1:00 or 11:00 oclock position. So when a boat is being exposed to conflicting water a more rounded forward section allows the boat to pass over turbulence and chines aft help in control. This feels like describing so many angels on the head of a pin, but , hey it's fun. Check out Mariner Kayaks hull shapes. I'm hoping some kayak nut designs a s.& g. kayay with 4 panels aft and five or six forward.
