Definately don't put it on the bow! I put it as far back as I could do it and still have a reasonable chance of getting the glass watertight around the trunk. The pivot on mine is more than two feet and less than three feet from the stern. I really think that the results of skeg versus none are so dramatic that the absolute location is not significant. The guys who sell computer programs may beg to differ, but I don't deal in that many decimal places. have fun
