Pinprick holes in fairing compound

Hello all:
I'm sanding the hull of my chesapeake 17, including some fairing compound I used and I am finding in a few spots a bunch of small holes exist in the fairing compound. They are somewhere between a pinprick and the head of a small pin in size and have some depth to them.
I figure they are from either poor mixing or spreading on my part. Regardless, I am wondering if I should try to fill them with more fairing compound, unthickened epoxy or if the high-build primer that I am planning to apply will do it for me.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Tom
